There is a lot to get to this week, so I'll try to get right to it!
1. After a tough week two weeks ago, last week was fantastic. I am inspired to do a lot of new things because of this, and hope that students see the benefits immediately. This change will hopefully motivate students to finish the year strong, and take control of their own learning.
2. The fifth grade teachers are on the look-out for parents who are available to take the lead with helping us organize our 5th grade picnic. This person will be responsible for helping us plan out the days events and get the park set up while we are over at the middle school taking our tour. If you are available, please let me know. The fifth grade picnic is scheduled for Friday, June 3rd.
3. A reminder that permission slips for the Read-In, Olympiad Volunteer sheets, AND Freedom Shrine information all went home last week. Please get these materials in as soon as possible.
4. Tuesday is a flip-flop day. We will be having a Friday schedule when students return from this four-day weekend. This is important because we have physical education on Tuesday. Have students bring in the necessary clothing to handle this class successfully.
5. Two tests this week. Starting on Thursday, we will be completing the unit 8 math test. Unit eight is on adding, subtracting, multiplying and simplifying fractions. The unit has been VERY difficult for many students and they may need to spend extra time this week at home preparing for the test. I have sent one review guide home already, and will be sending a second review guide home on Tuesday.
6. This time of the year, late work becomes a major issue for many students in 5th grade. To help motivate students from allowing this to happen, the 5th grade teachers have decided to connect the Read-In and the 5th grade picnic with late work. If your student has a few late assignments, I will be sending a warning letter home with them, and if the trend continues, they will not be able to attend the Read-In. If the pattern continues after the Read-In, the issue will be made up the day of the 5th Grade Picnic. I hope this is not an issue in our classroom.
7. A very quick reminder that school IS in session next Monday (5/2). It is a make-up day. Please remember to send your student on Monday.
There are ALWAYS things that I do not get to mention on this blog, so please stay up to the minute with us on our Daily Blog, on the Weekly Calendar, and of course through my Twitter feed. Make this week great, or not. The choice is yours!
