As we start the second half of the year, as a class we will take a few moments to reflect on the good and the areas of improvement for the first semester. I believe that fantastic improvements have been made in the area of respect and dedication to our learning over the first part of the year. I hope this trend continues and students are able to see the value in striving for excellence in these areas.
This week Friday, first semester reports will be sent home. These reports are designed to give "comprehensive insight into a child’s learning in the various subject areas." (BaSICS Parent Handbook) Frau Clarus and I have spent a lot of time this semester evaluating and assessing student progress in all of the areas mentioned on the report. My goal is to clearly share the progress of student learning on these reports. All students have the right to feel proud about what they have done, and should be reflective on the comments written by their teachers.
Something I do each time I do reports, is sit with the students and go over reports with them one-on-one prior to them going home. They will have the opportunity to both understand what I have written, and state their thinking about what I am thinking. What this means is, prior to contacting me or Frau Clarus about reports, ask your child about what was meant by a comment a mark they received.
Finally, I wanted to make everyone aware that I have moved the due date of the survey analysis back one day. It's a bigger project than I originally thought. The extra day should provide plenty of time. Please check with your student as to where they are on this project.
Have a great first week of the second half of the year!
