BACK TO WORK GRADE 5!
With only one month to go before our next break, we have a lot to squeeeze into this short five week period. I hope with this blog, to give you some of the highlights of what is to come. I hope to clear up what is to come in our research unit, our math unit, and a little classroom business.
First off, we are going to be starting off full-steam with our World Religion Research Unit. At the end of this unit, students will be expected to have a quality research paper, that they will be presenting in a short speech. These presentations will be held the week of April 2nd, and must be completed ON TIME. Students will be given time in class to work on these projects, but should plan on spending AT LEAST one hour per week working on this outside of school.
With this project, students will be selecting a religion that interests them and learning HOW to research by asking questions AND how to best use Google as a research tool. I am excited to share a presentation I created on Thursday on the topic. I will be sharing the PREZI on Thursday's Daily blog for all to see, along with some of the highlights from our discussion.
In math, we will begin our Measuring Unit that will take us all the way to the break. I am excited to try using the Mathletics program as an assessment tool, and students can expect to do some work outside of school during this this unit. We will also be spending a lot of time measuring up the school building and converting between different units of measurement. I think it will be a challenging and enjoyable learning experience for everyone. I have loaded the objectives of the unit through this link if you are interested in viewing.
I also want to make sure people are continuing to check the classroom calendar. I haven't yet updated the Weekly Calendar for Math and English, as I am still finalizing those plans. Please check this during the week. Also, on the home page, I have a main classroom calendar of events that can be followed. Please look at this calendar for updates on events in our classroom and at BaSICS. Also, please continue to check the school newsletter through the BaSICS Portal. This is a lot of information I know, but it will help keep you connected to your child's schoolwork and school building.
I will be out of the classroom the next two Friday's coaching the school's basketball team. We will be welcoming guest teacher Ms. Fischer to the classroom and treating her with respect and appreciation. Remember, our classroom goals still count when I'm away!
Have a great week,
Mr. N.
