I really hope everyone had a great weekend and is rested and ready to start a busy week ahead. Not too much out of the ordinary this week in our classroom, but some important information for parents and students alike should know! So sit back and enjoy the weekly blog!
This week, we will be welcoming Gabriel from 6th grade to our classroom while grade 6/7 is out on their field trip. Sadly, Gabriel was unable to make the trip with his class to Konstanz, and I know we will be friendly and helpful to him while he spends the week with us.
We will be starting a new math unit this week, the final of the school year. It's focus is on patterns and how they can be related in algebraic equations. I am very excited for this unit for a few reasons. The first reason is that the students wanted this unit! Earlier in the year, I asked students what they should know prior to leaving grade five, many said they needed to know algebra. I hope they finish this unit and are very confident leaving grade five and moving onward to grade six. The second reason is that this unit allows us to connect several of our other units in a bigger review of the school year. (Please see loaded unit outline.)
For this final unit, I will be using a curriculum that has already been developed with suppliments that I have created. The biggest difference in this unit is that assignments will be due to be completed the next day, reviewing the materials that we have completed in class during the day. Students will have only just started these lessons and may have difficulty with the work, simply sign that you spent 15-20 minutes trying it, and were unsuccessful. Remember only 50 minutes of homework per night!

I hope everyone has a fantastic week! Let's not forget about our student goals for the school year! We are looking to throw pies in my face, or shave my head! We are currently not performing very well on two of the goals. Ask you student if they know what two of these goals are, I bet they know immediately!
Have a great week,
Mr. N.
